Delete multiple objects in Server Explorer

Post by Alan Kirk »

Actually I'll be surprised if someone hasn't requested this already.

I'm sure that we all have had situations where we've wanted to delete obsolete chores and the related processes, or obsolete views, or obsolete dimensions.

The problem is that Server Explorer allows you to do it one... at... a... time.

Granted, it's possible to take down the server and blow away the relevant .vue, .sub, .cho or .pro files, but non-Admin users don't have that as an option.

Were this to be implemented I think that it should probably only be for the objects described above (and possibly Application objects), since it may be dangerous to allow multiple cubes or dims to be obliterated in a single action. Other than that, my feeling is that it should work more like Windows Explorer where you can indeed delete multiple obsolete objects in one step. (Two, if you count the confirmation dialog.)

Thoughts?

I can't remember the exact version this came in, somewhere round 8.4 I think, but in Server Explorer you can:

- view the properties window
- select your parent node object on left pane
- children objects appear in properties pane
- Use Mouse to highlight multiple child objects in properties pane
- Hit delete key for confirmation box

Ah, so it does in 9.1 SP4. I really must get on to updating to a new version.

As soon as I can find one that'll stay up...

Thanks for the tip.

as an aside to that tho, it would also be nice to be able to create application objects in multiples too. So frustrating to have to drag them one by one...
If this were a dictatorship, it would be a heck of a lot easier, just so long as I'm the dictator.

Is creation done one cube at a time to avoid confussion? At the end of the day in TM1 the only way to fix an issue like incorrect dimensions is to delete and start again.
