What causes a log file to appear on the TM1 server, with a file type "LOG$" and no data??

I want to be able to provide some exception reporting, that details any data that is not being pulled into TM1 via scheduled chores / processes... The data that is produced in the error logs on the server is fine - I just want to be able to email it to various departmental managers on a daily basis....
