As far as I'm aware that setting is the only way to get what you require. It forces a refresh when the data validation changes, without the parameter the user will need to trigger the refresh. How are you generating your selections, through subnm or data validation? If its subnm then as long as automatic recalc is on when you upload the application, tm1web should change when a selection is made.
