Last night, during a scheduled server restart, the problem went away mysteriously, it's all up and running now. Just the old "have-you-tried-turning-it-off-and-on-again" story. Sorry for having bothered you and thank you for your support.

Yes, we did. And again: the issue appears only with one of the databases, though we are accessing all of them using the very same Architect instance on the same client machine, same admin server, same DB server. No, I logged in as admin to all of them (to be precise, by the name of the built-in administrator, "admin").
