TM1 Runtime Error 429

Post by George Regateiro »

I know this has probably been discussed multiple times on the old forum and I thought that Applix had actually had a doc posted on the support site at one point (I cannot find it on the Cognos Site).

I have a developer who started recieving the Runtime Error 429 when Excel attempts to load the Perspectives Addin. Any would be appreciated.

Thanks

Erm I did answer this on the old forum, and infact got it again yesterday. You need to register a tm1 dll, but I can't remember which one :) If you are still having probs tomorrow when I'm back in work I'll dig out the answer.

We do need access to the old forum, so much useful stuff on there, hope they can sort it out soon.

George,

I've been looking into my email archives and you're right this issue has cropped up before.....

12th March 2007 - Runtime Error 429 - Please help! was posted -
However the poor user was trying to run tm1 in Vista,
As you can imagine, this caused an immediate flurry of respsonses asking 'why?' but with suggested solutions of
1. Persmissions to be able to access the xla
2. Uninstall and reinstall
3. Trying to run just the xla without installing fully and thereby registering the associated controls dlls, ocx etc (Solution see above)
4. Is the developer actaully trying to run tm1.xla and not tm1p.xla

26th November 2007 - Error 429 - ActiveX can't create - was started as a thread when opening tm1p.xla
1. Once again linked to file permissions
2. ActiveX controls stopped from running on a machine by security or worse - IT
3. Improperly registered (or not at all) tm1 controls
4. Quite often seen when running the xla from a network drive - sometimes enabling or copying the entire bin directory to a network share solves this.

I hope this makes some sort of sense as I've trawled the old files and paraphrased and misquoted I'm sure.
The upshot appears to be unregistered controls, on the clients machine.

Good Luck
Neil

yep that's the one, ours was caused when a messed up install process created by our IT dept had missed some files that were common between v8 and v9. If a user only had v9 installed, it was missing these files and hence the error. One way or another, it's caused by not being able to see the activex controls that excel requires.
If this were a dictatorship, it would be a heck of a lot easier, just so long as I'm the dictator.

I know that this much-loathed "ActiveX component can't create object" error message is a blast from the past, but there's a new spin on it which is that the shiny new 10.1 installer (the one that finds it All Too Hard to update PATH environment variables and still puts data files into the Program Files path) can still screw it up even if you're running as Administrator.

This recently released TechNote explains that:
This problem may also occur after installing v10.1 (even if user IS administrator of the local PC) due to an issue with the installer not registering all the necessary files properly.
It also contains instructions for rectifying the problem.
"To them, equipment failure is terrifying. To me, it’s 'Tuesday.' "
