TM1 <-> Teradata

Post by hansstip »

Hello Forum,

Does anyone have experience in connection TM1 (8.2.0) to Teradata (12.0.0.04) ?
Since the release of Teradata Version 12 we have problems connecting this to TM1.

It worked fine when using Teradata 6.2 but after upgrading we can no longer connect
to Teradata via the TM1-server as a TM1-client-user using Excel
in order to execute an import-process to a TM1-cube.

We use the ODBC-connection to import aggregated data from Teradata to TM1
in order to allow our Marketing-Department to analyse various campaigns.

We get the following error message : Unable to open connection to database.

The ODBC-interface itself works fine : We can connect to Teradata using SQL Assistant.
So the connection works and userid/password is correct, etc.

I guess there is a conflict between the TM1-Excel-plug-in and the ODBC-driver.
Can anyone help me ? Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Have you updated the ODBC driver on the machine you are using to connect to Terradata? I don't have any experience of connecting to Terradata but we have had issues with ODBC client version when connecting to Oracle (We were still able to test the connection but it didn't work within TM1 before upgrading, very similar to what you are experiencing.),

Hello, I am facing really similar issue with connecting to Oracle.

I can use with Excel the created system DSN ODBC connection(s) pointing to the Oracle database but wit TI it throws an error:
"Unable to open connection to Database"

The TM1 server(9.1sp3 32bit) and the Oracle database are not on the same HW but the Oracle client is installed on the TM1 server.

So there are two ODBC drivers for ORACLE but none of them is working with TI but just with Excel.
(Oracle in OraClient10g_home and Microsoft ODBC for Oracle)

Any Idea?

Thanks,

Hi,

Just a guess... Are you running TM1 on a 64-bit Windows machine and are you connecting through the 32-bit ODBC driver using the gateway service?
If so, the (32-bit) gateway service executable is probably installed in the Program Files (x86) directory. The Oracle ODBC driver has a problem with the parentheses in the path-name. So, if I guessed right the problem can be soved by moving the installation of the gateway service executable to a directory with no parentheses in the name. Another option is upgrading the Oracle ODBC driver (if a version without this problem is available).
