TM1 as DataSource

Post by AnonimusMax »

Hi,

I have to do a report using Cognos BI and having cubes from TM1 as a data source.
I know i can import the cubes into BI using Framework manager and creating a package and publish this package.

Is there another way to do this without using Framework Manager? Can I somehow use the cubes by doing some changes to setting and connection, and see this cubes directly into BI?

Thank you,

Depends what you mean by "in BI"; if you literally just want to have TM1 cube viewers in BI you can use the URL API.
If you want to use TM1 data in report studio etc it has to be framework manager as far as I am aware.

Hi
Thank you for fast reply, I want to use Data in the report, data coming from TM1. I want to use report studio to create reports.
Can you tell me what you meant by "if you literally just want to have TM1 cube viewers in BI you can use the URL API." cube viewers?

Another question. Now we use Cognos Security for Cognos TM1. If i go to TM1 web a user can see only the countries that he has access on.
The same behavior will be also in Cognos BI? or i should implement something else?

Thank oyu

Hi
I think he meant this:

I want to use report studio to create reports.
If you want to use tm1 cubes as data source in report studio, then yes, you should publish a package from FM.

Ok,

Thank you.
So my last question!
I have the security for dimesnions set in TM1. So when an user logs into TM1WEB he can only see the elements that he has access on.
If i use Report Studio, the behavior will be same? An user can only see the 'countries' that he has access set on TM1? Or should i do some extra configuration in FM or Cognos BI?

You don't have to create an FM package - BI can consume a TM1 cube as a data source.

Yes; you should use CAM authentication and so BI will be able to use TM1's element security. In the past there were differences how TM1 and BI were interpreting element security, not sure what is the status about that these days
