Re: Poll on the object locking model in 9.4

I have heard horror stories when it comes to 9.1. So, 9.4 is definitely an improvement. Is there anything we can pen down in terms of 'rule of thumb' when designing a model in 9.4? Have seen a number of posts with similar thoughts - and I completely disagree with going down a completely different m...

Re: over feeding

I take Martin's particular case on this one. The statsbycube has rarely given me much to go by in the past. As was alluded to you're better off getting a feel for where the performance bottlenecks are and removing feeders to pintpoint. The good news is one you've have found the cluprit(s) there's po...

Re: IBM Cognos TM1 V9.4 Scalability

Jeroen - you touch on a few interesting points. The biggest being a single 'uneducated user' is capable of making an entire TM1 system perform like a Excel 97 spreadsheet. I've had users call seeking an explanation as to why there are performance issues at critical times - a quick snapshot/email of ...

Anyone else finding TI's are taking forever to open in 9.4 (most releases).... talking magnitude of minutes under some circumstances with OLAP data sources - just to be clear this isn't executing a TI, merely opening it for editing in Perspectives/Server Explorer.

Re: Which TM1 versions are supported with Excel 2007?

Jeroen - You should see an issue where using any TM1/Excel based formula (e.g DBRW) in any range greater than supported by Excel 2003 (eg. rows > 65536).

Re: Upgrade - TM1 Version selection

For mine - TM1 9.4 and Excel 2003 works as you would expect. I've developed new models under this configuration and have encounter no problems. I've also upgraded a number of complex planning models running under Version 9.0 (x64) to v 9.4 and have had only positive feedback from users (generally al...

There certainly are scenarios where Feeders consume quite a bit of memory - in these scenarios you might try using conditional feeders to help trim down memory usage.

Re: TM1 Server as Service

I have a feeling the user doesn't know where the config is and pushed through the TM1 install with default settings - means the config file could be sitting under the Custom\PDATA folder. If they haven't installed the sample data then I'd wonder if the config file exists at all....hence the 'data di...

Re: Create dimension problem

Unfortunately you can't create that kind of Exact hierarchy. You can't have a parent (B) with the same name as any of its child (B). TM1 allows for 'ragged hierarchies' - essentially you can do away with the "B" parent in Level 1 (the remaining "B" element is still Level 0, but r...

Re: TM1 Server as Service

Nice explanation Alan. User could always go into the Windows Registry Settings to determine where the TM1 Service config file lives. Must say I'm sometimes shocked that users who are unaware of how to resolve this are left responsible to install TM1 as a service. It's a fairly fundamental part of th...

Re: New Help system, 9.4... .1? Who came up with this?

Think its a part of 9.4MR1.

Quite a few 'suprises' if you ask me. Some of the TM1 silent install/uninstall switches have changed - all of which remain undocumented. Spent some time 'guessing' what some of the switches to include/exlcude particular components were.

Re: Slicing cube view to Excel 2007

I'd generally tend to agree with you Incognito, however there are likely to be plenty of reasons as to why someone might require this. Lets not forget there are instances of TM1 models that contain over 2 million elements in the 1 dimension (not all TM1 models are accounting based). Everyone at one ...

Re: Slicing cube view to Excel 2007

Just ran a few quick tests. The slice in Excel 2007 to over 65k rows is definitely not working correctly. Elements on ROWS seem to 'stop' at the Excel 2003 limit, and on huge slices the DBRW formulas appear to be incorrect (I had no cube reference!). I've had no issues where slicing within the 65k l...

Re: TM1 on virtual server pros and cons

There's no blanket answer to your question - the impact has to be dealt on a case by case basis, and the only real way to determine performance etc.. is to run a TM1 pilot under the proposed vitual server insance. There's too many factors that could swing the pendulum either way here. For what its w...

Re: What files to copy in rebuilding dimension

If you are using an .xdi file - just run the xdi dimension save over your production environment. For what its worth - a change in your chart of accounts is normally a complicated change in TM1. If you have a 1-to-1 mapping of old accounts to new accounts then possilby easier to user Alias's, ensure...

Re: Any idea about how to upgrade TM1

Upgrade will cost you nothing up front (its included as part of the annual maintenance you pay).

What do you actually need to do to upgrade? Erm... I'd suggest taking a look at the upgrade notes as a 1st step, and possibly touching base with the person/people who peformed the orignal installation.

Re: Excel + DBRW() bug

Yes you are quite right.

The official line is TM1 9.4 is fully compliant under Excel 2007 and has a status of 'supported' under Excel 2003. Obviously 2003/2007 are uniquly different for a range of reasons (max rows/colums, etc..).
